How it works
The device determines blood pressure by occluding the brachial artery with an inflated cuff and then slowly releasing air while listening for pulse sounds to identify systolic and diastolic pressures.
- Seat the patient upright and comfortably.
- Position the cuff with its upper edge about 1 inch above the antecubital crease.
- Secure the cuff snugly using the attached strap.
- Inflate the cuff to a level above the patient’s systolic pressure.
- Release air slowly while listening with the stethoscope.
- Record the first audible beats as the systolic pressure.
- Continue deflation until the sounds are no longer heard; record this as the diastolic pressure.
