SHOCK WAVE EXCELLENT is an electro-medical system for radial shock wave therapy delivered via a shaped handpiece. Shock waves are acoustic waves carrying high energy that are transmitted through the skin and spread radially in the area of pain. The body responds with increased metabolic activity at the application site, helping to reduce inflammation through an analgesic action induced by local endorphin release, and stimulating and accelerating the healing process. It is a non-invasive, active therapeutic device intended for use by physiatrists, physiotherapists, and pain therapists in hospital and outpatient settings.
The device generates radial shock waves by launching a steel projectile with compressed air inside the handpiece barrel against a metal cap. The resulting shock wave propagates radially in the skin and superficial tissues, or more focally depending on the transmitter used. Penetration depth is 4–7 cm.
